Scientific Name: Justicia adhatoda
Common name: Malabar nut
Devnagari: असुरो
Pronunciation: a-su-ro

Asuro is a small evergreen bush originally from the lower Himalayas. It is commonly found in hills of Nepal. It bears flowers with large, attractive white petals, streaked with purple on the lower lips.

Asuro leaves have been used in Ayurvedic Medicine for over 2000 years to treat respiratory disorders.

The leaves contain carotene, vitamin C and essential oil – the whole plant is expectorant, expectorant, anthelmintic, bronchodilator, anti-piratic and blood-purifying commonly used in fever and respiratory difficulties.

Adhatoda vasica is useful in treating bronchitis, colds, whooping cough, asthma, tuberculosis, sore throat and other lung and bronchial disorders.
