Chutro is a shrub between 2 and 3m tall, having dark green leaves, multiple yellow flower and purple fruits other types of varieties are also available like red, black etc. The fruit ripe in the month of may and june.
The fruits of the species are eaten by locals as dessert. They are juicy and contain plenty of sugars and other useful nutrients that supplement their diet. The roots can also be used for making an alcoholic drink.
Chutro is used as medicinal purpose in conditions like inflammation, swellling, pain,wound healing, jaundice, menohrrhagia and eyes infection. ‘Rashut’ is prepared by this plant which is considered as valuable medicine in Ayurveda, which is used for the curing opthalmic issue,gargaled in oral problem,used in vaginal discharge . fruit used in anorexia.Its barks and roots are used to obtain yellow dye painting and other fabrics.
