Scientific Name: Nephrolepsis cordifolia
Devnagari: पानी अम्ला
Pronunciation: paa-nee-um-laa

Pāni Amlā also known as Himalayan Ground Gooseberry, is a underground fruit which is sour and sweet in taste. Its leaves resembles that of ferns.

It has many medicinal advantages. The powder made from the dried leaves, root and fruit of this plant is very beneficial for jaundice patients if it is consumed with water and sugar. Fresh fruit consumptions is beneficial for digestion and even help to maintain blood sugar level. It helps to remove household air toxins such as formaldehyde and xylene. The underground berries are used as mineral water.
