Alainchi, also known as black cardamom, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family Zingiberaceae. Its seed pods have a strong, camphor-like flavour, with a smoky character derived from the method of drying. Nepal is the largest producer of Alainchi in the world.
In traditional medicine, Alainchi is used for treatment of stomach disorders and malaria and the decoction of Alainchi rhizomes is used in the therapy of jaundice.
