Lapsi


Scientific Name: Choerospondias axillaris
Devnagari: लप्सी
Pronunciation: lap-see

Lapsi is known in English as the Nepali hog plum. It is a tree in the family Anacardiaceae. It is the sole species in genus Choerospondias. It is a unique fruit of the Himalayas and is found in most parts of Nepal.

Its fruit is about 3 centimeters long and has a soft whitish sour flesh and green to yellow skin. The fruit is made into pickles, fruit tarts, and sour, spicy candy.

Lapsi is a deciduoustree growing up to 20 meters tall.

Besides fruit, the tree yields valuable wood and hard seeds which are burned for fuel, and has parts used for medicinal purposes.

It have variety of pharmacological and therapeutic usages such as antihyperlipidemic, antidiabetic, improves cardiac function, boost immunity, improve haematological parameters.
